Cuprinol Garden Shades is a water based exterior wood paint specially developed to colour and protect. It can be used on most exterior woods including sheds, fences, log cabins and furniture. It's also perfect for smaller exterior projects as it can be applied to terracotta, brick and stone. Special pigments give you rich colour that enhances the natural wood grain whilst giving 6 years of protection.

We recommend obtaining a sample pot to ensure you're happy with the colour before purchasing your paint as colours can vary on screens. As we offer the full range of colours, some tins are premixed and others mixed in store. Colours may also vary depending on surface to be treated, always test a small area to ensure you are happy with the colour.

Preparation

Always ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dust, algae, fungi or moss.

• To clean wood give it a good brush with a stiff brush to remove any dirt, debris or loose wood
• If your wood has been effected by algae, fungi or moss this must be removed and can be cleaned with products such as Cuprinol Garden Furniture Cleaner
• Garden shades can be applied straight on top of previously stained wood after preparation. For paler colours we do recommend to either strip it back to the bare wood or use a stain blocker to ensure you can still achieve a strong colour. Use a stain stripper or primer such as Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 Plus
• Resinous wood will need a stain blocking primer such as Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 Plus

Application

Before applying stir the product thoroughly and test a small area to ensure you are happy with the final colour and the paints adhesion to the surface. Colours can vary dependent on surface to be treated.

• Apply 2 coats
• Brush on product evenly along the grain
• Allow 2-8 hours between coats
• Apply only in dry conditions, above 5°C and when bad weather is not forecast
• Final colour will depend on wood type, previous treatment and the number of coats applied
• Any overspray should be cleaned up immediately (whilst still wet) with water and household detergent
• This product can be applied by brush or with Cuprinol Fence Sprayer

Note: Always follow the manufacturer instructions found on the tin.

Aftercare & Storage

To maintain your treated wood reapply 1 maintenance coat each year to prolong the life. Regular cleaning with a dampened cloth or brush can also prolong the life of your treated wood.
